Mediation Services
Conflict is a normal part of life, and doesn't have to be an uncomfortable experience. Conflict stems from the inevitable differences between us. If no one were ever in conflict, what a boring world it would be! Yet, sometimes we need a little help getting back into harmony with one another, or in ending a relationship. That's when Mediation can help.
Family Mediation:
Divorce: Ending a marriage can be one of the most stressful experiences of one's life, especially when children are involved. We each want to be sure that our children are protected from the pain of divorce as much as possible, and ending the marriage amicably and respectfully is one step on that path. A mediated agreement can save money, time and the hard feelings that often go along with an adversarial divorce process. Mediation allows divorcing couples to be creative, flexible and to have the freedom to work out a resolution of issues that is tailored to fit the needs of their family. A mediated settlement agreement will become part of your final divorce decree, creating a lasting agreement that works for you.
Custody/Visitation Rights: Mediation can also help couples who have children but were not married, or grandparents who wish to see their grandchildren after divorce. A mediated agreement will create contact strategies that are binding and work for all involved. It is in the best interest of children to ensure that they do not lose family members they love just because of a breakup.
Separation Discussions: Not sure whether you want a divorce? Have you been through or are you going through counseling but need some 'action steps' to proceed? Trying to decide how to separate in the least disruptive way possible? Are you hoping or trying to reconcile? Mediation can help.
Dissolution of Partnerships: Begun with the highest of hopes, partnerships still often come to an end. Whether you are a couple ending a relationship or business partners ending an association, mediation can help resolve issues and iron out details to ensure a clean, efficient and comfortable dissolution. Tracy welcomes same-sex couples and provides a safe and respectful environment for open discussion.
Parent/Teen Mediation: Do you and your teen or parent speak an entirely different language? Is that language often loud and argumentative? Are you having trouble communicating and afraid that a breaking point is near? Is your teen threatening to run away? Is the stress in your household too much to bear? A discussion with a mediator can be a step on the road to reconciliation and a healthier relationship.
Workplace/School/Organizational Mediation: Tracy has worked with workplace mediation throughout her 10 years of experience. As a mediator with the United States Postal Service REDRESS Program, she is well versed in EEO complaints and workplace dissent. She has also worked with boards of directors, town councils and selectpersons, libraries, fire departments, churches and many other organizations involved in disputes.
Tracy is also a rostered mediator for the Maine Department of Education. She has worked extensively with children, teachers and volunteers to help create a safe and amicable learning environment. Tracy is especially well-versed in bullying issues, behavior problems and juvenile offenders at school.
Community Mediation: Although we are able to choose where we live, often we can't choose who we live with, or next to. If strife and discord is tearing your neighborhood apart, if noise or odor from next door is a problem, or you and your neighbors just can't get along, mediation can help. Tracy has extensive experience in helping neighbors find common ground, having served as the Executive Director of Community Mediation Services for 7 years, during which time she pioneered the establishment of the use of mediation in the district courts for Protection from Harassment. Mediation works!
